Aquaponics is a low-maintenance and sustainable growing practice that can be kept indoors to avoid weeds and bugs. By designing a family model people can feed their families fresh food while also giving them the freedom to tailor their system to their family’s wants and needs. Through prototyping data collection to design the best model for a family to use.

User Needs
The ideal user would be someone between the ages of 25-30. These users would be already into the hobby of caring for plants or fish keeping. Additionally, they would already be purchasing natural products and trying to live a natural lifestyle within suburbs. These users would also already have well-paying jobs that would be able to afford a hobby like this.

Prototyping
System development

A live prototype was created to prove how often users could take from it. How it could grow in low-quality light conditions and to find possible flaws.

3D modeled version allows users to have more
access to plants and animals as well as makes it easier to clean. There is an overflow safety built in, to allow the system to still run even if users have a backup in their bell
siphon. The system base is bamboo, a sustainable
building material that would appeal to users.
In 25 days 8 meals
were made from vegetables grown in this
Aquaponic system

Web development

Users will land on a page with an interactive 3d model that will draw them. The model will be labeled and the
camera angle will change to help users understand the titles. Handcrafted icons and art are also on the page to give users a more modern and clean feeling to the product.

Idealizing a final project
If this project would be further developed
1. Have a fully functional high-fidelity prototype like the one in the 3d model.
This would confirm my beliefs about upgrades and show further ways to upgrade the system for the better.
2. Develop other assets of the prototype.
During this project, many ideas were thought of to elevate the overall design such as package design, Arduino functions for auto feeders and temperature regulators. Some features mocked up allowed users to choose what size system they wanted and what they wanted to keep.
3. Looking into the pricing of a unit.
How much this would cost someone to own is still something that has to be looked into.
4. Creating a seed add-on.
This would allow users to grow their own seeds without the need for other germination methods.
5. Finding a way to add to the growing bed.
This would allow users to expand their growing bed beyond what is provided. Making the system expandable will make it so users are not only one-time buyers and will come back to grow their hobby.

A Product Overview & Business Case
Creating a 1-page landing page to display a high-fidelity aquaponic farm with information about it. A 3d model will be created to show the high-fidelity model and have that on the main page as the hero image. Data collected from the system will also be displayed in a dynamic way to inform users about real-life scenarios to help them understand how often things get used. The target audience will be middle-class families looking to get into the hobby.
Success Criteria
-Create a working one-page site that houses information

-For a user to understand the concept without me explaining anything

-For good visuals explaining the content

-For users to stay on the page and enjoy the time while giving clear information
Goals & Priorities
To build a high-fidelity prototype web page that looks like,

-A corporate

-Level site with branding.

- User testing.

- Documenting how the system has worked so far.
Side Goals
- Building an auto feeder
- Adding a temp reader

The demographic would be adults between the ages of 25-30 who are nature lovers, looking for all-natural green products. These people would be looking for sustainability. These people are the types of people to look up forging practices or other nature related videos.

Technology Choices

The programs I plan on using are Rhino for 3d modeling High fidelity models. Photoshop will be used clean up images and use illustrator for graphics and graphs. Everything will be built in HTML and CSS with a bit of java.
Identify key Resources

I am staying open to options of how things look and will be taking what I learned from class and looking
online for other inspiration.

Mood Board

Success Criteria For Wire Frames
To make this project successful people need to.
-Understand what they are seeing
-Be interested in the project
-Wish to learn more
-Learn something from the page If these criteria are met, then this project will be on the right track to going into further development. If some are not met then changes will need to be made to the clarity of the site as well as the purpose of it.

Questionnaire
2. What is aquaponics?
3. Do you like gardening or keeping aquariums? Why or why not?
4. What introduction did you like best?
5. Do you see yourself using this system? If so what animals and plants would you keep?
6. Did you learn anything new?
7. What would you like to know more about?
8. What navigation did you like best?
9. Did the item sorting help or confuse you?
10. What did you like most about the site?
11.What could you have done without?
Results
Almost 100% of people understood what aquaponics is.
What introduction did you like best, and why?
Do you see yourself using this system? If so what animals and plants would you keep?
50% of people saw themselves having this system.
What navigation did you like best, and why?
It was split 50/50 between 1 and 2.
Did you learn anything new, what did you learn?
“Yes I learned what aquaponics was “
“I learned that I can grow celery, I didn't know that honestly “
The results have shown that my wire frames are successful. My success criteria were met with users understanding what they are seeing and being interested in it. With the criteria met I can move forward with making a high-fidelity version.

Flaws

The gravity filter got backed up and the pressure in the system needed to be pushed, causing everything to be wetter than needed. This started as a result of water being added to the tank. The solution was just to wait the problem out.
This issue can be fixed in the future by having the growing medium higher then the bell syphon allowing for water to rise but not drowned plants.
Prototyping Future

Moving forward with prototyping the system has new plants added to see how full it can be made and if the water quality will get better. Plants have been added to the pots after watching another system work similarly. This will allow root systems to not be damaged and for the water to be added and removed without drowning the plants. This will be a document to see how things progress. This will also add to the number of meals I can make.

Identify the Technologies
Repository and Backup Routine

The backup will be done on the git hub and USB to keep files intact. If an error occurs an earlier version will be used to recover the data.
Code Goals

For the site, I wanted to have an interactive element at the top of the webpage that users could use and manipulate to allow them to explore the device themselves. This rendering is not meant to be a perfect replica but a representation of how things could look.
I coded the camera angles of the code as well as the buttons and placement. When the buttons are clicked they rotate the object and change the camera view. Text will also appear to explain more about the system.
Success Criteria
-Have a 3D model move in the browser to act as an eye

-Catching interface to bring my user audience in
-Label different parts to explain to a user that may not understand how this system will work

-Have text appear to explain the model to further explain how the system works
-Add to Webflow site
What was
Success & not
-The 3D model does work in the browser
-Important parts are labeled and the camera moves to show them
-I didn’t get the text to appear
-I can add it to the webflow site but this has not been implemented yet.
